On Friday, October 31, 2008, at 3:45 pm, DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Director Clark E. Ray, Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander, and Harry Thomas, Jr, Ward 5 Councilmember and Chairman of the Committee on Libraries, Parks and Recreation, will join the Ward 7 community for a ribbon cutting ceremony and pep rally to celebrate the opening of DPR's new artificial turf Premier Athletic Field at Ridge Road Recreation Center, 800 Ridge Rd., SE.
DPR converted the existing 60-foot baseball diamond and football/soccer field to a new FieldTurf artificial turf playing surface, with inlaid game lines and markings. Additional improvements and project work included:
- New lighting
- New seating for 500 spectators
- New dugouts
- New pressbox
- New scoreboard
- New goal posts
- Improved Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access
- New fencing
- New on-site storage facility
- New athletic field maintenance equipment
