DPR Removes Peanut Butter Products From Child and Adult Care Food Program

Media Contact: John A. Stokes, (202) 673-2195

In response to recent recalls of food products containing peanut butter, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has discontinued the delivery of any products containing peanut butter for use in meals served through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) managed by DPR's Office of Food and Nutrition Services.

There have been no links found to any products or meals served through the CACFP, but as a preventive measure, DPR discontinued the delivery of any products containing peanut butter on Friday, January 16, 2009.  Upon completion of the US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) investigation, DPR will consider returning peanut butter products to the CACFP.

The DPR Child and Adult Care Food Program provides 1,500 meals Monday through Friday at a number of DPR centers and child care and after school program sites, and over 1 million meals during the summer months.  For more information, contact the DPR Office of Food and Nutrition Services, (202) 541-6459.
