The Palisades Community Center, located at 5200 Sherrier Place, NW, will close on December 29th so that upgrades can be made to the property. Scheduled improvements to the site include the installation of an artificial turf soccer field with a retaining wall and the total renovation of the basketball courts. The baseball field will also be renovated and will include a batting cage, a new backstop and dugouts. The center is scheduled to re-open by spring of 2007.

The pathway around the recreation center will be made compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Other improvements include enhanced lighting, new landscaping around the entire site, outside furnishing and a new irrigation system.

Starting January 8, 2007, Palisades recreation programs will be moved to Key Elementary School at 5001 Dana Place, NW. The hours of operation will be from 3:30 pm – 8 pm on Monday and Tuesday and 3:30 pm - 6 pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

The Preschool Cooperative play will move to Hardy Recreation Center at 4500 Q Street, NW. The program will be operating Monday-Friday from 9 am - 12 noon. The Cooperative play will be closed from December 25, 2006 to January 5, 2007 for winter break.
