(Washington, DC) The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will open summer camp registration on Saturday, March 3, 2007. Residents will be able to enroll their children in activities through the DPR website or at recreation centers throughout the District. DPR offers many day camp activities as well as a residential co-ed camp in Scotland, Maryland.
“We are excited about this summer’s offerings and we are doing an extensive outreach to increase our enrollments and serve every child in the District,” said Wanda Durden, Interim Director of Parks and Recreation.
Camp selections include “Discovery Camp,” aquatic camps, various sports camps (tennis, basketball, and soccer) and others. Camps begin June 25 and run through August 17, 2007. All camps are offered Monday through Friday, and before and aftercare is available at all sites.
Scholarships are available for eligible DC residents. Breakfast and lunch will be served to children 18 and under at selected sites through the “Free Summer Meals” program. (Children do not have to be enrolled in camps to enjoy free meals.)
