(Washington, DC) On Saturday, March 31 at 1:30 pm, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, Ward One Councilmember Jim Graham and the Columbia Heights community will celebrate the grand opening of Columbia Heights Community Center at 1480 Girard Street, NW.
The opening follows an extensive, 15-month, $11.4 million renovation. The 47,000 square-foot, state of the art facility features an indoor gymnasium, a multi-purpose room, a weight room, an arcade/game room, a stage for community performances, a music studio, a dance studio, a computer room and culinary arts facilities.
"We’re excited about this new facility. Columbia Heights Community Center is designed to the meet the vast needs and interests of a diverse, multicultural and intergenerational community. It is our vision that this facility will serve as an anchor in the community that will enrich and expand recreational experiences and opportunities for all ages and abilities,” said Wanda Durden, Interim DPR Director.
The grand opening activities will include entertainment, demonstrations and a facility tour.
