(Washington, DC) Join the Department of Parks and Recreation and organizers to kick off DC Summer Fun 2007, Monday, June 25th from 11am to 4pm at Langdon Park, 2901 20th Street, NE.
Mayor Adrian Fenty is scheduled to host a press conference at 2 pm to announce the DC Summer Fun initiative that offers an array of services for District youth that include employment, summer feeding, recreation and education.
The summer kickoff festival will provide safe, fun activities for children and their families. Events will include a moon bounce, a slide, a Ferris wheel, a trackless train, turbo tubs, the flying dragon, obstacle courses, carnival booths with games and prizes, snow cones, cotton candy and popcorn stations throughout the park, DC Public Library bookmobile, puppet shows, competitive sporting (basketball tournament, dodge ball and relay races), arts and crafts and more.
DC Summer Fun 2007 is a collaborative effort sponsored by government agencies, community-based providers and supporters of summer programs. With more than 150 programs, DC Summer Fun is designed to provide the District’s young people with activities to keep them engaged in the summer. Programs include summer camps, free summer meal programs, summer reading, health services for children and youth, early care and education, summer safety, summer school, mental health services and summer youth employment.
