(Washington DC) On Saturday, July 28, at 2 pm, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, Ward 4 Councilmember Muriel Bowser, other elected officials and the Petworth community will cut the ribbon at the opening of a new state-of-the-art playground area and spray park at the Petworth Recreation Center, 801 Taylor Street, NW.
The DC Department of Parks and Recreation partnered with Allstate Foundation and Children’s National Medical Center’s Injury Free Coalition for Kids-DC to refurbish the playground which is specially designed to keep kids safe at play and to reduce playground injuries.
“This project is a wonderful example of a public-private partnership and serves as a model of what can be accomplished when everyone pulls together for the betterment of the community,” said Wanda S. Durden, Interim DPR Director.
The key features of this project include a spray park, two playgrounds, one for children ages 2–5 years old and one for children ages 6–12 years old, cast-in place concrete walks and sitting areas, turf multipurpose open space, landscaping, an irrigation system, park site furnishings, including benches, lights and trash receptacles.
A community build project will conducted at 12 pm, and the grand opening ceremony begins at 2 pm.
