DPR Hosts 22nd Annual Mayor’s Cup Invitational Amateur Boxing Tournament

(Washington, DC) On Friday, August 17 at 6:30 pm, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation will kick off its 22nd Annual Mayor’s Cup Invitational Amateur Boxing Tournament with an opening ceremony at Kennedy Recreation Center, 1401 7th Street, NW.  

Competition matches will be held August 17 – 18 with an awards ceremony on Sunday, August 19 from 10 am to 12 pm at Banneker Recreation Center, 2500 Georgia Ave., NW.

The tournament is sponsored by the Potomac Valley Associations, US Amateur Boxing, Inc., and is approved by the DC Boxing and Wrestling Commission. Boxers are required to be registered under the USA Boxing guidelines and documentation must be submitted prior to entering the tournament.

The tournament is limited to four boxers in each weight class; which includes, male and female, open, novice and Junior Olympic. Participation is limited to a first come, first serve basis to boxers who meet all registration requirements. Each team will be allowed to bring two coaches/trainers and two officials who must be registered with their local boxing committee.

Team awards will be presented for champion and runner-up. Individual championship belts will be presented to male and female open champions. Participants in the Junior Olympic weight class will be awarded trophies and medals. Trophies will also be presented for sportsmanship and outstanding boxer.

The opening ceremony begins at 6:30 pm on August 17. Awards will be presented at the closing ceremony which begins at 10 am on August 19.
