(Washington, DC) – On Saturday, December 8 more than 30 pom-pon squads representing recreation centers from across the District are expected to take center stage at the Bell Lincoln Multi-Cultural Senior High School located at 3101 16th Street, NW for the 2007 Citywide Pom-Pon Competition. The event is open to the public. The doors open at 1:30 pm, and the competition begins at 2:30 pm.
The competition will be divided into four divisions which include 6 and under, 10 and under, 13 and under and 18 and under. Teams will be judged in the following five categories: motions, dance, skills, formulations/transitions and overall effect. Team trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place winners and all teams who compete will be given medals.
“Pom-pons squads have been a long-standing tradition at DC Parks and Recreation. We are excited about the resurgence of the renewed energy demonstrated by the participants, coaching staff and supporters. These young athletes train very hard all year and display a tremendous amount of dedication, enthusiasm, team pride and love for the sport,” said Clark Ray, DPR Acting Director.
