(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, December 5, nearly 200 lucky dribblers representing the DC Department of Parks and Recreation centers in Wards 6, 7 and 8 gathered at King Greenleaf Recreation Center and received basketballs on behalf of NBA All-Star basketball player LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Nike in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
Twenty-eight cities across the country received 200 basketballs as a gift from LeBron James and Nike Let Me Play. The global campaign encourages young people to play sports and get active.
“We are very grateful for this tremendous donation by LeBron and Nike. We all share a common goal of encouraging youth to live healthy, active lives,” said DPR Acting Director Clark Ray.
The youth ages 8 to 13 participate in DPR’s afterschool and basketball league programs. Participants expressed their appreciation by autographing a banner thanking LeBron and Nike for the basketballs.
