Ward 7 Teens to Join District Seniors During Spring Break for Health Walk 2008

Media Contact Only: MosesAlexander Greene, (202) 673-7684

On Thursday, March 27, 2008, the Department of Parks and Recreation’s (DPR) Office of Teen Programs and Seniors Division of Recreation Services will come together for “Health Walk 2008: Intergenerational Fun and Fitness." The event, which kicks off at 11 am at the Kenilworth Recreation Center in Northeast Washington, includes warm-up exercises, the health walk, lunch, and several dancing demonstrations.

Clark E. Ray, director of DPR, stated, “I am very proud of our divisions for seeing a need to create Health Walk 2008, an event which bridges the generational gap of our residents while promoting recreational fitness. Such programming helps to build and strengthen communities and foster environments of understanding throughout our city.”

Motivational signs will be placed throughout the walking trail with messages such as “Success Is Awaiting You,” “Seniors Do It Best,” and “Tracking Supreme Teens To Success”. A highlight of the afternoon is sure to be when the seniors teach the teenagers how to hand dance and the teenagers teach the seniors hip-hop dance. All participants will come together for an end-of-the-event line dance.
