The Department of Parks and Recreation’s (DPR) Office of Planning and Capital Projects unveiled its schedule for refurbishing a number of basketball and tennis play courts throughout the District this spring.
The refurbishing process for the play courts involves two phases; Phase One includes the milling and resurfacing of the existing play courts; Phase Two is the color coating of the court and installation of new fences for each court. Courts will require curing after color coating and will not be immediately available for use; the work schedule provided incorporates this curing time. The refurbishing work is also contingent upon weather, as precipitation and inclement conditions can adversely impact start and completion dates.
According to Clark E. Ray, director of DPR, “Refurbishing the play courts allows DPR to provide a safe and inviting surface for basketball and tennis. DPR is committed to improving our recreational facilities District-wide and this is yet another small step towards achieving that goal.”
