The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) today announced that it has received its first application for the establishment of an official dog park on District-owned park land. The Newark Gardens Dog Park application is for the park adjacent to Newark Gardens on Newark Street, NW, between Idaho and 39th Streets, NW. The application seeks to install and operate an 11,000 square-foot, off-leash dog park in the southeast corner of the property.
The public is invited to review this application and all future applications at the agency’s website, dpr.dc.gov, or by visiting the DPR Headquarters at 3149 16th Street, NW, First Floor. The deadline for public comment for the establishment of the Newark Gardens Dog Park is April 29, 2008.
“I am excited that DPR has received its first dog park application,” said Clark E. Ray, director of DPR. “Our updated website allows for members of the public to review this and all future applications as well as submit comments regarding its establishment. I believe we have come up with processes that work for all of the District’s constituents concerning this issue.”
