(Washington, DC) -- The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will temporarily close the Stead Recreation Center beginning Monday, May 19, 2008, to accommodate construction of a new entrance, central plaza, and playgrounds. 

The athletic field will remain open.  During construction, alternative access to the athletic field will be from 17th Street, NW, via Church Street, NW, to the field entrance.

During this temporary closure, residents are encouraged to visit the Kennedy Recreation Center, 1401 7th St., NW, (202) 671-4794.

The project is scheduled to be completed in August 2008.
