Outstanding Urban Recreational Programming Awaits You in July at DC DPR!

Media Only Contact: John A. Stokes, (202) 673-2195

If there is one place to be in the District of Columbia for the best in urban recreation, athletic, and leisure services, it is at your DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR). This month, we invite District residents of all ages to rediscover the joys of summer by participating in the great programs our dedicated staff has created with you in mind.

As is our tradition, before highlighting July’s events, DPR would like to thank District of Columbia residents for their outpouring of support in June 2008. You were simply the best! Last month’s highlights included over 1,000 District seniors celebrating life, liberty and the pursuit of aging gracefully at this year’s Annual Senior Picnic; over 400 District youth ages 5 to under 21 participating in the Spring 2008 Citywide Soccer Championships; and hundreds of residents of all ages beating the heat wave by flocking to our outdoor pools and spray parks.

An abundance of summer fun activities are available at our facilities throughout the District’s eight wards and at Camp Riverview in Scotland, MD in July. Special highlights include the Congress Height Recreation Center’s “Christmas in July,” a summer afternoon of tree trimming, exchanging gifts, holiday music and enjoying treats; the Metropolitan Police Department’s “Third District Fun Day and Cookout,” an afternoon of scrumptious food, fun activities and face painting at the Kennedy Recreation Center; a Girls Softball Clinic sponsored by the Washington Nationals which includes DC Glory, the District’s professional women’s softball team; and children ages 6 -12 visiting the Petey Green Center to learn more about African American inventors.

These programs and more are here at your Department of Parks and Recreation! To find out more about the events, programs and services DPR is offering in July, stop by your nearest DPR center or select from the following link to view a complete list of our July activities:
