Six DPR Athletes Qualify for USA Track and Field Junior Olympics in First Year of Competition

Earning two first place medals, three second place medals, and one third place medal, at the USA Track and Field (USATF) Region 3 Championship, in Rock Hill, SC, six members of DC Speed have qualified to compete in the 2008 USATF Junior Olympics, to be held in Omaha, Nebraska July 22 - 27, 2008.  DC Speed, the youth track and field club of the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), is in their first year of competition.

“Congratulations to all of our DC Speed athletes who competed in the Region 3 Championship,” said Clark E. Ray, DPR Director.  “What a great achievement, that in our very first year of competition, six young athletes have earned the right to compete in the Junior Olympics!”

Competing this past weekend at the USATF Region 3 Championship, the following DC Speed athletes qualified for the USATF Junior Olympics: 

  • Tiye Badal; first place, 1500-meter race walk, bantam girls, 10:34.94
  • Kenneth Carroll; first place, 1500-meter race walk, bantam boys, 10:55.99 
  • Zawadi Carroll; second place, 1500-meter race walk, midget girls, 10:49.17
  • Faith Logan; third place, 1500-meter race walk, midget girls, 10:49.27
  • Dashanii Cunningham; second place, 1500-meter race walk midget boys, 10:43.18
  • Salena Weekly; second place, high jump, young women, 1.57 meters
