Media Contact Only: John A. Stokes, (202) 673-2195

On Monday, August 18, 2008, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), temporarily closed the Douglass Community Center, 2100 Stanton Terr., SE, in preparation for the demolition of the existing roof and installation of a new roof.  Other repairs and improvements will be made to the center in the coming weeks in preparation of the DPR / District of Columbia Building Industry Association (DCBIA) Community Improvement Day, Saturday, September 13, 2008.

On Saturday, September 13, from 7 am to 3 pm, DPR will partner with DCBIA, local contractors, and the Ward 8 community to assist in the groundbreaking and build up of the Douglass Community Center.

Residents interested in participating in the DPR / DCBIA Community Improvement Day should contact DPR’s Office of Partnerships and Development at (202) 671-1462 or by email at DPRpartnerships@dc.gov to register as a volunteer.
