This morning the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that on Monday, September 22, in partnership with Positive Nature, Inc., it will host an open house to highlight the expanded therapeutic recreation services now available at the DC Center for Therapeutic Recreation (TR Center), 3030 G Street, SE.
DPR and Positive Nature, Inc. staff will host the open house from 11 am to 6 pm. A media-only tour of the facility which highlights DPR’s enhancement of programming through the new partnership will begin at 1 pm. Parents and guardians of those with disabilities and/or special needs, and the public are invited to meet and greet staff members as well as register for the upcoming fall programs.
Open house activities will take place in three areas of the TR Center:
- On the field there will be community relays, miniature golf and a game of positive ball.
- In the atrium and throughout the perimeter information on existing programs and new services through this partnership will be available.
- In the gymnasium there will be community arts and crafts activities.
The day also includes live music, face painting, team building challenges, dance classes, and a stepping class taught by men from the Eta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. who mentor participants of the TR Center. Light refreshments will be served throughout the day.
Positive Nature, Inc. is a nonprofit organization which provides structured, strengths-based therapeutic services to at-risk and emotionally-disturbed youth through comprehensive, family-focused programs. The organization recently partnered with DPR to administer DPR’s existing therapeutic recreation programming as well as bring its own array of programs and classes. The proper name of the partnership is known as “Positive Nature at the TR Center.”
Opportunities to participate still exist for organizations which provide similar services. For more information about programs and services at the TR Center, call (202) 698-1794.
