The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will host another great day of youth and adult competition this Saturday, September 13, as the first week of play of the new DC Pop Warner football league kicks-off and the DPR 2008 Co-ed Softball Tournament takes place at West Potomac Park.
Thursday night, DPR and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington hosted the first two games of the new DC Pop Warner Football season, as the first ever Pop Warner football games were played on the new football field at Kennilworth Parkside. The results of the evening's two games were Clubhouse #14 defeating King Greenleaf, 19 - 6 in the Mitey Mite division, and Banneker Recreation defeating Clubhouse #14 in the Midget division.
The remainder of the DC Pop Warner Football games are scheduled to be played across the District on Saturday, September 13. The full schedule is available below.
The newly combined DC Pop Warner football league is comprised of 113 teams and over 2,800 youth athletes, ages 5 to 15 years old.
On Saturday, DPR will also host the 2008 DPR Co-ed Softball Tournament at West Potomac Park. The single elimination tournament will feature 24 co-ed teams from across the District competing for championship honors. Games will begin at 10 am on eight fields and end in the evening with a championship game and the crowning of the DPR 2008 Co-ed Softball Champion. The full tournament schedule is available below.
