Media Contact: John A. Stokes, (202) 673-2195

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will begin work Thursday, October 23, 2008, on an erosion control project on the grounds of the Lafayette Recreation Center, 5900 33rd St., NW.  Project work includes:

  • New drainage system for the water daisy / spray park
  • New erosion control devices around the water daisy / spray park area
  • New erosion control borders around the upper playground
  • Refill of groundcover in upper playground
  • Repair of broken or inoperable equipment in upper playground

Work is expected to last approximately three weeks, and during construction there will be a complete closure of the upper playground area.

The rest of the Lafayette Recreation Center will be unaffected and remain open during the project work, including the recreation center, ball fields, tot playground, and tennis courts.
