On Saturday, November 1, 2008, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) will host a Saturday of championship youth football as the first season of DC Pop Warner Football comes to a close.
This season, 98 teams and 2,100 players ages 5 to 15 competed in games every week on football fields across the District including on new artificial turf fields at both DPR and DC Public Schools locations. Saturday's will feature 22 teams fighting for championship honors. A complete schedule of Saturday's game is provided below.
Championship football games will be played at Roosevelt Senior High School, 4301 13th St. NW; Coolidge Senior High School, 6315 5th St. NW; and McKinley Technology High School, 151 T St. NE.
Games at Roosevelt SHS will feature Division 1 teams, including perennial powerhouse Beacon House, who won a national championship last year versus Watkins, who is their latest rival.
Division 2 games at Coolidge SHS will see DPR teams in championship competition. DPR's Banneker Community Center has three teams that will square off against North Michigan Park, King Greenleaf and Fort Davis Recreation Centers.
McKinley Tech HS will host the BGCGW teams where the rivalry between two southeast clubhouses continues, with newcomer FBR and traditional powerhouse Clubhouse #11 facing off in the Junior Pee Wee and Junior Midget divisions, and FBR will battle Clubhouse #14 in the Pee Wee division.
