DPR Names Citywide Pom Pon Champions and DC Pop Warner Football Team in Regional Championship

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) crowned four citywide pom pon championship teams this past weekend and saw one DC Pop Warner Football team continue onto the Eastern Region Championship game this Saturday in Toms, River, NJ.

On Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Coolidge Senior High School, DPR hosted the annual Citywide Pom Pon Championship where 19 teams competed for championship honors.  Complete results from the competition are:

6 Years Old and Under Teams
1st Place - Harrison Recreation Center
2nd Place - Emery Recreation Center
3rd Place - Bald Eagle Recreation Center

10 Years Oldand Under Teams
1st Place - Sherwood Recreation Center
2nd Place - Emery Recreation Center
3rd Place - Payne Recreation Center and Fort Davis Community Center

13 Years Old and Under Teams
1st Place - Benning Park Community Center
2nd Place - Kennedy Recreation Center
3rd Place - Emery Recreation Center

18 Years Old and Under Teams
1st Place - Malcom X Recreation Center
2nd Place - Rosedale Recreation Center
3rd Place - Barry Farm Recreation Center

DC Pop Warner Football
Last weekend, DC Pop Warner Football teams participated in regional competition, and one DC Pop Warner Football team has advanced to the Eastern Regional Championship this Saturday in Toms River, NJ.

On Saturday, November 22, three Division 1 DC Pop Warner Football teams took to the field for Eastern Region Pop Warner semi-final games at Annapolis High School in Annapolis, MD.  Results of those games are:

  • Beacon House Falcons (Pee Wee Champions) lost to the White Oak Warriors, 7 - 0
  • Beacon House Falcons (Junior Midget Champions) beat the White Oak Warriors, 13 - 0
  • Watkins Hornets (Midgets Champions) lost to the Frankford Chargers, 12 – 6

With the victory, the Beacon House Falacons will play this weekend in the Eastern Region Pop Warner Championship game at Toms River South High School in Tom River , NJ.  The Beacon House Falcons will take on the Asbury Park Bishops on Saturday, November 29, with a 3 pm kick off. 

If Beacon House wins on Saturday, they will be the Eastern Region Pop Warner Champions, and will compete in Orlando, FL for the Division 1 Junior Midget Pop Warner National Championship.

Also in action on Saturday, November 22, was one Division 2 DC Pop Warner Football team, the FBR Tarheels (Pee Wee Champions) for the Eastern Region Pop Warner semi-final at Brick Memorial High School in Brick, NJ.  The Tarheels lost to the Raritan Bay Cougars, 24-18.
