This January, the world wants to be in the District of Columbia! What a wonderful time it is to be a Washington Metropolitan area resident and have front row seating to history.
Before highlighting January’s programming we would like to thank you for your tremendous support in December. Some of the agency’s recent highlights included breaking ground on the Deanwood Community Center and Library and the Girard Street Park; ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the new playgrounds at Stead Recreation Center and the Girard Street Playground; and celebrating "DPR Day at the Verizon Center" where two of our DPR youth basketball teams played during the half-time break of the Washington Wizards game. With your help we are steadily moving towards creating world-class spaces and opportunities for all District residents.
This month, an abundance of educational, informational and entertaining activities await you. A few of these include the beginning of our indoor soccer league, registration for our winter basketball season, community meetings by our Office of Planning and Capital Projects to discuss the designs of new parks, a discussion presented by the United Planning Organization about healthy choices, exercise and nutrition for seniors, our Citywide Playstation Madden Tournament for teenagers and the second annual Winter Wonderland Ice Cream Social at the Hearst Recreation Center in Northwest.
These programs and more are here at your Department of Parks and Recreation! To find out more about the events, programs and services DPR is offering in January, visit us online at dpr.dc.gov or stop by your nearest recreation center. Also remember that our Wonderful Washington Winter program guide is available at our facilities and can be downloaded from our website.
