The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced today that the DPR Camp Riverview program has been named the designated charity of the 16th Annual Washington’s Funniest Celebrity Contest, which will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2009, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the Washington DC Improv, 1140 Connecticut Avenue, NW.
Hosted by the Funniest Celebrity in Washington Charitable Fund, this annual program provides the opportunity for journalists, politicians, sports figures and other local celebrities to compete for the title of Funniest Celebrity in Washington. This year’s Washington’s Funniest Celebrity Contest is on track to be the most anticipated and highly attended, individual tickets can be purchased for $200 or a table of eight seats for $5,000.
Past competitors have included such Washington luminaries as Dan Glickman (President of the Motion Picture Association of America), Grover Norquist (Americans for Tax Reform), Mike Huckabee (Former Governor of Arkansas and Presidential candidate), United States Senator Arlen Specter (PA), United States Congresswomen and sisters, Linda and Loretta Sanchez (CA), and Congressmen Barney Frank (MA) and Dennis Kucinich (OH).
DPR’s Camp Riverview offers District youth the opportunity to enjoy a week-long overnight camping experience. Located in Scotland, MD, Camp Riverview is nestled among 217 wooded acres along the Potomac River near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Camp Riverview can be the only time that youth experience a true camping experience – hiking, team-building experiences, environmental education, fishing, roasting marshmallows over a fire, sleeping under the stars and most importantly, enjoying nature and the important role it plays in our lives. Campers also participate in creative arts, learn outdoor living skills, canoeing, archery, and more.
