This week the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) began safety improvement work to the baseball diamond at Chevy Chase Playground and Recreation Center, 5500 41st Street, NW.
Work underway is limited to making safety upgrades to the baseball diamond, and does not include any other field or site improvements. Work is anticipated to be completed in April 2009. Safety improvements currently being made are:
- Installation of a concrete backstop knee wall and 25 feet-high safety netting
- Installation of 30-feet high safety netting along the first baseline
- Installation of a single row of stadium seating behind home plate and approximately 40-feet of seating along both baselines
- Installation of covered dugouts
- Installation of permanent on deck circles.
While the safety improvement work is underway, DPR continues to work with the community to develop and discuss plans for additional future improvements to the baseball diamond at Chevy Chase Playground.
