In partnership with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), the Greater Washington Sports Alliance and the Washington Mystics will host a free Community Day, Saturday, May 30, from 1 to 4 pm at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center, 1100 Michigan Avenue, NE.
Families and children and youth athletes, ages 10 to 18 years old, are invited to join the Washington Mystics and DPR to celebrate basketball, the Mystics Youth Summer League, and interact with professional WNBA players. Washington Mystics players will conduct drills and activities, and children and youth can have their photos taken with the players, and girls can sign up for the free Mystics Youth Summer League. A meet and greet with players will begin at 2 pm, and the Mystics drills and skills clinics will occur from 2 to 3:30 pm.
Last year the Washington Mystics forged a partnership with DPR and the Greater Washington Sports Alliance to establish the Mystics Youth Summer League. The league featured 27 teams consisting of nearly 300 girls, ages 10 to 18 years old. The various age groups competed at DPR centers across the District with the championship games held at the Verizon Center.
On Tuesday, June 2, the Washington Mystics will host a coaching clinic at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center for Mystics Youth Summer League coaches, and they will have the opportunity to learn from, and to ask questions of, Mystics coaching staff.
