Washington, DC -- St. Albans School held on for a 5-4 victory over Wilson High School in the 2nd annual Congressional Bank Baseball Classic (CBBC) before 1,891 fans at Nationals Park Saturday night. The Congressional Bank Baseball Classic features a matchup between DC public and private high schools. St. Albans senior pitcher Cameron Phillips struck out Wilson’s final batter with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the victory.
“What a great game and a great effort by both teams,” said Erik Moses, CEO for the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission which helped organize the tournament. “The kids really enjoyed themselves especially getting an opportunity to play in Nationals Park.”
St. Albans also defeated Wilson HS for the 2008 title.
DC Mayor Adrian Fenty and his sons Matthew and Andrew threw out first pitches for the Championship Game. During the All-Star Game, DC Council Chairman Vincent Gray threw out the first pitch and DC Department of Parks and Recreation Acting Director Ximena Hartsock led the crowd in singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh inning stretch.
