DPR to Resurface Tennis Courts at Volta Park

Media Contact: John A. Stokes, (202) 673-2195

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will begin a resurfacing project to the outdoor tennis courts at Volta Park Recreation Center, 1555 34th Street, NW, which will require closure of the courts beginning Monday, July 27, 2009.

The tennis courts at Volta Park will be resurfaced with a state-of-the-art Premier Court® cushioned play surfacing system. Premier Court® is an all-weather cushioned sports surface ideal for outdoor installations. The playing surface is made of a patented composite with a standard acrylic recreational coating, and was developed to eliminate cracking and prevent weathering.   Project work will also include the installation of new tennis nets and new fencing around the courts.

The courts will remain closed for the duration of the project.  Weather-permitting, project work is scheduled to be complete in September 2009.
