Fenty Administration Opens New Outdoor Courts at Chevy Chase Playground

Media Contact: John A. Stokes, (202) 673-2195 (DPR); Jack Pfeiffer, (202) 727-1751 (EOM)

Today, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty was joined by DC Department of Parks and Recreation Acting Director Ximena Hartsock, and the Ward 3 community to announce the opening of the new outdoor basketball and tennis courts at DPR's Chevy Chase Playground, located at 5500 41st Street, NW.

"From large scale projects like the Wilson Aquatic Center, to smaller projects like the outdoor courts here at Chevy Chase Playground, my administration is committed to investing in quality recreation facilities for our residents," said Mayor Fenty.  "Once again I'm proud to show that we have delivered on that promise."

Project work included the demolition of the existing outdoor basketball and tennis courts and the building of new courts, from the subgrade level up to a new asphalt concrete playing surface.  The subgrade level was re-graded and stabilized, with two new layers of asphalt concrete laid on top of the new base.  Once paving work was complete, color coating and striping was applied to the new playcourts.  Project work was complete with the installation of new tennis nets, basketball backboards and hoops, and fencing around the courts.

"Across the District, DPR is improving the recreational and athletic facilities we provide our residents," said DPR Acting Director Hartsock.  "The combination of enhanced athletics programs and facilities is a win-win for everyone."

The $127,000 outdoor playcourts project was completed in just over a month in partnership with the DC Housing Authority, who served as the general contractor for the project.
