(Washington, DC) --Today, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and Ximena Hartsock, acting director of the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), joined Ward 6 residents to break ground on improvements at Potomac Avenue Triangle Park in the 1200 block of Potomac Avenue, SE.
“Making investments in our neighborhoods, and building welcoming outdoor recreation sites for our communities remains a priority for my administration,” said Mayor Fenty. “This park will be something for the community to be proud of, and will provide the neighborhood with a positive recreational area to enjoy."
Last month, community members approved the DPR Planning and Capital Projects team’s illustrative conceptual design for the park at a neighborhood meeting. The new park will feature a dog-friendly area, side door opening trashy receptacles, raised steel planters, backless steel benches, coble stone border accents, and Venetian stone pavers. The contractor, Turf Center Lawns, is scheduled to complete work on the park by the end of September 2009.
“The work that will be performed at the Potomac Avenue Triangle Park is an example of community and government working together to create beautiful neighborhoods,” said DPR Acting Director, Ximena Hartsock. “DPR is excited about the work being done to the green space in this community.”
