DPR Partners with DCPS for Second DPR Play Day

Media Contact: John A. Stokes, (202) 673-2195
DPR Play Day: (202) 445-3562

On Friday, October 30, 2009, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) in coordination with the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), will offer its second DPR Play Day -- a full day of programs for DCPS students in grades Kindergarten through 8 -- at DPR sites across the District.  The complete list of DPR Play Day sites is provided below.

Thursday is a half day for DCPS students, and 50 of the District’s recreation centers will open its doors to District youth from 12:30 – 9pm. In addition to fitness and enrichment activities, a meal will be available for all who participate.

“DPR Play Day fulfills a critical need for families and children across our city,” said Mayor Adrian M. Fenty.  “This programming provides our youth positive outlets and enrichment opportunities outside of school.”

DPR Play Days coincide with DCPS’ Professional Development Days for teachers and ensures that students engage in a mixture of arts and crafts, fitness, and enrichment activities outside of the classroom.  DPR Play Day programs begin at 8:30 am and end at 5 pm; breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be available for all registered youth.

Registration for DPR Play Day can be completed several ways:
