On Saturday, October 31, 2009 the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), the District of Columbia Pop Warner Football and Cheer League will kick off Championship Weekend, closing the second season of DC Pop Warner Football. The games will be held at Anacostia High School, located at 1601 16th Street, SE.
During the 2009 season the DC Pop Warner Football League had 100 teams with over 3,400 youth athletes, ages 5 through 15, in six Pop Warner Football age/weight divisions. Championship games are held on Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1 from 10 am to 7 pm. The winners for each division will represent DC Pop Warner in the regional playoffs in November, and the chance to compete in the Pop Warner Super Bowl in December.
Founded in 1929, Pop Warner Football is the only youth football program (local, regional, and national) that sets and enforces a strict age and weight matrix which reduces the risk of injuries. Pop Warner is also the only national youth sports organization that requires its participants to maintain academic standards in order to participate.
