DC Winter Games Heat Up for March Finals

Locations set for playoffs, championships

(Washington, DC) More than 3,000 District youth will participate in the finals of the DC Winter Games, scheduled to take place throughout the month of March.

Bringing to a close competitive league play started in December, the DC Winter Games Finals pit boys and girls from ages 7 to 15 against one another in various sporting events, including basketball, bowling, indoor soccer, track and field, and volleyball.

“We want to offer a diverse menu of sporting events to our young people,” Director Neil Albert said. “It is important to nurture their interests in all sports, not just traditional ones.”

The DC Winter Games is designed to promote play and positive peer interaction. Youth participate in unique, creative activities that lead to short- and long-term goal attainment. Games are site-specific, with competitors having the opportunity to graduate to ward and city-wide finals.

Scheduled championships are as follows:
Track and Field, 5 pm, March 15 at the DC National Guard Armory
Bowling, 5 pm, March 20-22 at Howard University – Blackburn Center
Basketball, 10 am – 4 pm, March 23 at Bald Eagle Recreation Center
Indoor Soccer, 5-7 pm, March 27 at Joseph H. Cole Recreation Center
Volleyball, 5-8 pm, March 28 at Fort Davis Community Center
