(Washington, DC) Community leaders and area residents will be on hand to break ground for the planned Parkview Recreation Center.
The event will take place at 6 pm, June 5, 2002. The new center will be located at Warder St. & Otis Pl., NW.
The $1.8 million facility is scheduled for completion by September 2002. The existing 4,500-square-foot, one-story building will be renovated and supplemented with a 1,200-square-foot addition. The center will also receive a new play area, ball field improvement, lighting, and fencing.
The current facility is across the street from Parkview Elementary School. Officials believe that the center will bring needed recreation services to the area.
This will truly be this communitys center, Neil O. Albert, director of DC Parks and Recreation, said. Its proximity to the area schools, coupled with the Georgia Avenue reinvestment initiative, makes Parkview Recreation Center a high-profile project.
The Parkview project illustrates the administrations continued emphasis on recreation, Albert added.
The new recreation center, gymnasium, and playground are necessary assets to this community and our city. This project is a symbol of the rebirth and growth of our neighborhoods throughout the city, he said.
