(Washington, DC) Soccer is the only game in town during the Snickers All-Star Soccer Clinic, taking place from 10:30 am 12:30 pm, July 23 on the Ellipse.
More than 150 kids from DC recreation centers will get hands-on training tips from Clint Mathis, a member of the 2002 US World Cup team. Mathis was instrumental in the teams positive showing at this years World Cup competition. Soccer instructors from DC Parks and Recreation will also be on hand for the event.
As shown by the number of leagues and youth programs, soccer is an important sport in the District, Neil O. Albert, DC Parks and Recreation director, said. This clinic enables our youngsters to receive top-notch tutoring from sporting professionals like Mathis.
Mathis, 25, is a feared offensive threat on the US Mens National Team and the New York-New Jersey MetroStars. In his first appearance at the World Cup, he scored a thunderous strike against South Korea. The goal helped the United States secure a 1-1 draw and eventually advance into the knockout round, where the Americans reached the quarterfinals for the first time.
The free clinic is being held in conjunction with the SNICKERS® US Youth Soccer National Championships, popularly known as the SNICKERS® Cup. The event will take place, July 24-28 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, MD.
