(Washington, DC)The DC Department of Parks and Recreation will mark the future site of the Hillcrest Recreation Center during a groundbreaking ceremony, scheduled for 11 am on Nov. 4 at the current centers location (32nd and Denver Streets, SE).
Planned attendees include Mayor Anthony Williams, Ward 7 Council member Kevin Chavous, and members of the Hillcrest Community Civic Association.
According to DPR Director Neil Albert, community presence at the event should be significant due to the high public interest shown in the project by Hillcrest residents. Through community meetings, the department has been able to conduct an open dialogue about the centers construction and design.
Community leaders were involved with this project from its inception, Albert said. Hillcrest residents should be commended for their civic awareness. Their involvement will help us tailor recreational services to meet their diverse and unique needs.
The new 15,000-square-foot facility will sport an indoor basketball court, a multi-purpose room, computer lab, exercise room, pantry, class/crafts rooms, and storage space. Site improvements include the complete replacement and restoration of the baseball field, picnic area, tennis courts, outdoor basketball courts, playground equipment, and other amenities.
