The recently renovated Chevy Chase Community Center, located at 5601 Connecticut Avenue, N., will officially celebrate its reopening with an open house and registration for spring classes on Saturday, April 7, from 9 am to 3 pm. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 11 am.
The day will feature tours of the building, demonstration classes in fencing, art, tumbling, Kung Fu, aerobics, folk dancing, and a participatory community mural painting workshop. Exhibitors from the community will include Historic Chevy Chase, Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3G, the Bead Society of Greater Washington, Neighborhood Action, and the Chevy Chase Citizens Association.
Chevy Chase Community Center was built in 1971, and closed in 1998 for extensive renovations. It reopened last February with a new roof, an elevator, new heating and air, new wiring and windows, security lighting, a new sound stage, and remodeled classrooms, kitchen and bathrooms.
Chevy Chase Community Center is part of the DC Department of Parks and Recreation network of facilities. The Department and the Chevy Citizens Association are sponsoring the open house.
