Camp Opens Its Doors to Caregivers

(Washington, DC) The DC Office on Aging, in collaboration with DC Parks and Recreation, is sponsoring a weeklong getaway for city residents who serve as family leaders.

Open to seniors over the age of 60, the United Generations Camp takes place from August 4 to August 9 at Camp Riverview, a 216-acre facility in Scotland, Md. The camp is free for all District residents.

“We are excited to provide this camp for our seniors because they mean so much to our household,” DPR Director Neil O. Albert said. “We want to give the de facto leaders of the American family—today’s senior citizens—a chance to experience nature firsthand.”

Events planned include nature walks, bingo and other leisure games, live music and dancing, movies and fishing. Food will be provided for campers.

Participant guidelines are as follows:
Be at least 60 years of age and a DC Resident.
Be the primary caregiver of a child 18 years of age or younger.
Live with the child in the District of Columbia.
Have a legal relationship to the child, or is raising the child informally.
Be a relative by blood or marriage.
