Black History Invitational Swim Meet to Make Spash at Takoma Aquatic Center

(Washington, DC) The 19th Annual Black History Invitational Swim Meet will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 19 and 20, at the Takoma Aquatic and Community Center located at 3rd and Van Buren, NW, Washington, DC.

Warm-ups will begin at 6 am, with the first event beginning at 7 am. The Swim Meet is sponsored by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation and The United Black Fund, Inc., and is coordinated by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation Aquatic Division.  

Competition will be held for individuals and teams in the following divisions: Novice, Elite and Masters. The meet will feature 35 teams (see below) from around the United States, and there is no entry fee.

The events include a 100-medley relay, free relay, individual medley, freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke. Competition is specific to age group and gender.

Medals will be awarded for first place in the novice and elite divisions. Ribbons will be awarded for second through sixth places in novice and elite divisions, first through fourth places in the master’s classes, and for first through third places in relays. Winners of each heat will also receive ribbons.
