Fort Totten Transfer Station Temporarily Will Not Accept Disposal of Construction and Demolition Materials

(Washington, DC) Work related to the long-overdue upgrading and expansion of the Fort Totten Transfer Station began around mid-October 2006. The contract requires that minimal transfer operations be maintained during the construction period. Because of severe space constraints, beginning on Thursday, February 1, 2007, construction and demolition (C&D), such as dirt, masonry, and concrete will not be accepted temporarily at the facility.
 
“This is a temporary situation," said Department of Public Works (DPW) Director William O. Howland Jr. The work is being done on an accelerated schedule and should be completed by mid-summer of 2007. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Residents may continue to bring their household trash and bulk items to the facility. Those with dirt and C & D materials should contact other trash transfer stations that may accept such materials.
