W*USA 9 To Air “Not In OUR DC! Pledge To Keep The Capital Clean”

W*USA 9 will broadcast “Not in OUR DC!  Pledge to Keep the Capital Clean,” Saturday, September 20, at 12:30 pm. The documentary features District youth who are committed to keeping the District litter and graffiti free. Several of the young people in the documentary participate in SWEEP Jr., DPW’s program to help high school students earn community service credits for graduation.

“This show is just one element of the Not in OUR DC! campaign,” said DPW Director William O. Howland, Jr.  “We want to change behavior to reduce the litter and graffiti that detract from the city’s beauty. We want people to use the street litter and recycling cans rather than dropping trash on the street or sidewalk. We are proud of the District and we want people to respect our city.”

Mr. Howland noted that the Web site, http://www.connectwithkids.com/notinourdc/, has Not in OUR DC!  Pledge to Keep the Capital Clean materials in English and Spanish, including the documentary, 10 two-minute video vignettes, and a video of the recent Youth Empowerment and Community Partners Town Hall events featuring District government leaders, DC youth and community leaders. The site also includes resource and implementation guides for youth and adults interested in organizing neighborhood clean-up events or other activities to promote a clean DC.

The Not in OUR DC!  Pledge to Keep the Capital Clean campaign is a partnership among DPW, Connect with Kids and W*USA 9.
