(Washington, DC) The DC Fire and EMS Department is making it more convenient for city residents to have smoke alarms installed in their homes. Through corporate partnerships with organizations such as Kidde, Fireman’s Fund and First Alert, the DC Fire and EMS Department has made available thousands of free smoke alarms for city residents.
As part of Chief Dennis L. Rubin’s vision of making sure working smoke alarms are installed in each and every home in the District, residents can place a request online and firefighters will be dispatched to install the devices. To request a free smoke detector, residents can visit the “Home Fire Escape Planning” pages.
“I cannot overemphasize or overdramatize this point,” said Chief Rubin. “There are people who would be alive today in our city had a working smoke alarm been in their home. It is simply the best first alert system you can establish for the safety of yourself and your family. And in Washington, DC we’re not just giving them away, we are also installing them.”
