(Washington, DC) The DC Fire/EMS Department, along with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation Office of Educational Services, is hosting the fourth annual Fire Safety Olympics, a program of physical competitions focused on teaching fire safety and prevention skills. Mayor Williams will attend the fourth annual event.
DC Fire educators have been working with children at city recreation centers this summer. More than 300 children between the ages of five and 14 will compete in events like the “Running Gear Race”, where the kids don firefighter protective gear and run in a foot race. They will also test their coordination skills in the “Bucket Brigade.”
“It is important that children learn fire safety skills,” said Fire/EMS Chief Adrian H. Thompson. “The Fire Safety Olympics is a great way for children to have fun while learning critical, potentially life-saving skills.”
