From Awards to Opening Nights, District Stars in Film and TV

John A. Wilson Building Cast as the Backdrop for National Public Service Announcement
The Federal Office of Disability Employment recently completed production of a public service announcement as part of the national Campaign for Disability Employment. Scenes for the PSA were filmed in the John A. Wilson Building and featured DC Office of Disability Rights employee, Mat McCollough. The PSA will air as part of a national campaign later this summer.

NBC’s The Biggest Loser Takes on the District of Columbia
Filming wrapped up this week on a special episode for the upcoming season of The Biggest Loser. The contestants from NBC’s weight-loss reality contest show performed a series of unique challenges as they explored the District’s landmarks and dined in local restaurants.

DC Filmmaker Wins Prestigious Award at Annual American Black Film Festival
Len Bias, written, produced, and directed by DC filmmaker, Kirk Fraser, was awarded the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary, at the 13th Annual American Black Film Festival in Miami last week. Fraser and his DC based production company, May 3rd Films, also earned critical acclaim for his 2005 debut film, The Life of Rayful Edmond. Len Bias will be available for audiences everywhere soon.

Opening Night Screening of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Hosted by Viacom as a Thank You to the District
The Office of Motion Picture and Television Development and DC Magazine recently partnered with Viacom, the parent company of Paramount Pictures, to host a special opening night screening of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as a thank you to the District for supporting the film industry. Representatives from several District agencies, as well as local business leaders attended the event, hosted at the Motion Picture Association of America’s downtown offices.
