Website manager at NOAA wins with screenplay Mount Pleasant

(Washington, DC) The Office of Motion Picture and Television Development and DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities are proud to announce this year’s winner of the 5th Annual Film DC ScreenwritingMayor Anthony Williams with Screenwriting Competition winner Joe Flood Competition, Joe Flood, for his dramatic script Mount Pleasant.

He will travel to Los Angeles to visit the set of The West Wing and participate in a writer’s session with the creators of the acclaimed series.

Flood has written five feature-length screenplays and numerous short stories and articles. His screenplays have been recognized by the Nicholl Fellowships, Fade In magazine, the American Screenwriters Association and other contests while his short stories have appeared in InterText, The Morpo Review, Satire and American Literary. He's also written on the arts and life in DC for The Washington Post, The Hill Rag and CultureFlux. A graduate of American University, he's lived in Washington for nearly 20 years and currently works as a website manager for National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Mount Pleasant is set against a backdrop of the Mount Pleasant riots of the early 1990’s, this dramatic feature follows two young men as they try to make it in the District despite the turbulent times around them.
