Washington, DC's "National Treasure" To Open In Theaters November 19, 2004

This fall, Washington, DC will see the release of one of the largest film productions that the city has hosted; Touchstone Pictures’ “National Treasure.” The release of the film also marks a historic tourism promotion opportunity for Washington, DC.

Film has long been a catalyst for tourism in the Nation’s Capital, and “National Treasure” provides visitors with a unique experience in the District. The Washington DC Convention and Tourism Corporation has teamed with the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation to create a joint promotion to celebrate the release of “National Treasure.” In this historic partnership, Washington, DC will allow visitors to experience their own “treasure” hunt as they explore locations that played a prominent role in the film. People interested in this promotion should visit www.movietour.org for more details.

In “National Treasure,” Nicholas Cage stars as Benjamin Franklin Gates, third generation treasure hunter. All his life, Gates has been searching for a treasure no one believed existed - amassed through the ages, moved across continents, one of the greatest treasures the world has even known.

Gates’ life-long journey leads him to the last place anyone thought to look: a map hidden on the back of the Declaration of Independence. But what he thinks was the final clue was only the beginning…

“National Treasure” also stars Jon Voight, Diane Kruger, Sean Bean, and Harvey Keitel. It is directed by Jon Turtletaub and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
