Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Recovery Act Program
The District of Columbia Justice Grants Administration is requesting written comments on the District’s 2009 Application for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Recovery Act Grant Program (42 U.S.C. 3750). Proposed to streamline criminal justice funding and grant administration, the JAG Program allows the District Government to support a range of crime prevention and intervention activities based on local needs and conditions. JAG funds can be used for District initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice.
Projected use of funds for the 2009 JAG Recovery Act application include: research, data, technology and evaluation grants designed to improve the efficiency of the District’s juvenile and criminal justice systems and facilitate data-driven funding, policy and practice decisions; demonstration projects to pilot and evaluate evidence-based practices for improving prisoner re-entry outcomes; capacity building and funding projects to increase and improve at-risk youth services; and diversion initiatives to reduce the number of youth and adults detained, court involved and incarcerated.
These priorities are consistent with the federal purpose areas for the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). They also reflect crime and public safety statistics and issues for the District.
Written comments must be submitted by March 31, 2009, and should be emailed to Josh Weber at josh.weber@dc.gov. Thank you.
