Justice Assistance Grant Public Notice of Comment

The District of Columbia Justice Grants Administration has posted the District’s 2009 application for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program for public view and comment . Proposed to streamline criminal justice funding and grant administration, the JAG Program allows the District to support a range of crime prevention and intervention activities based on local needs and conditions.  JAG funds can be used for District initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support and information systems for criminal justice.

Projected use of funds for the 2009 JAG program include: research, data, technology and evaluation grants designed to improve the efficiency of the District’s juvenile and criminal justice systems and facilitate data-driven funding, policy and practice decisions; correctional improvements and prisoner reentry services designed to reduce recidivism rates; juvenile crime prevention and PINS diversion initiatives; workforce development and evidence based therapeutic services for adjudicated youth; and diversion initiatives to reduce the number of youth and adults that are arrested, detained, court involved and incarcerated.

These priorities are consistent with the federal purpose areas for the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG); reflect crime and public safety statistics for the District; and are issues of importance to the Executive Office of the Mayor.

Written comments must be submitted by June 31, 2009, and should be emailed to Josh Weber at josh.weber@dc.gov. Thank you.
