On June 1, 2009, the Judicial Nomination Commission ("Commission") gave notice of the expiration of the term of the Chief Judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and invited candidates to apply for that position by June 30. The current Chief Judge, the Honorable Eric T. Washington, has notified the Commission of his interest in being redesignated as Chief Judge. The Commission did not receive additional applications for the position.

The Commission invites comments from the bench, bar and public regarding the qualifications of Chief Judge Washington for redesignation as Chief Judge for the four year period beginning August 5, 2009. Comments should be submitted by way of email to the Commission at dc.jnc@dc.gov.

Any comments received by the Commission will be considered confidential and will not be released to the public. Any comments discussed with the candidate will be discussed without revealing the source of such comments, absent written consent by the individual or organization providing the comment.
