Smoking Cessation Help for LGBT People and Allies

Did you know?

  1. Lesbians are more likely to say that they are current or former smokers than heterosexual women (Tang, et al., 2004). This may be because of the additional stress of living in a sometimes hostile and intolerant society ( Vanis, et al., 200,Ryan et al.,2001).
  2. Both Lesbians and African-American women have been targeted by the tobacco industry’s advertisements (Stevens 2004).
  3. More women die from lung cancer than from breast cancer (American Cancer Society 2003). In fact, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women. Smoking also increases our risk of uterine, cervical, mouth, and throat cancers, as well as heart disease, bronchitis, stroke, and emphysema.

Come to the Mautner LGBTQ and allies smoking cessation course, and begin the journey to better health for yourself and for those you love.

For more information, view the front* and back* pages of the Mautner Project brochure.
